This is No. 281 of 325 copies for England, with a total limitation was 1,550 copies, of the Valentine Museum’s significant collection of all extant letters between Poe and his adoptive father, John Allan. These letters follow Poe through his years at the University of Virginia, the death of his foster mother, quarrels with his father over money and, finally, his desperate plea for reconciliation and financial support from Mr. Allan. Tall octavo: [ii], 327, [5] pp. with a frontispiece portrait, 14 plates, and facsimiles throughout. Largely uncut. Original decorative paper-covered boards over a black cloth spine with gilt-stamped titles. Internally crisp and clean.
