New York: G.W. Dillingham Company, 1903. Hardcover. Near fine/Good. Presumed to be the first American edition (M.A. Donohue and Co. in Chicago also published an edition dated 1903). Historical novel about the Welsh buccaneer, most famous of the adventurers who plundered Spain’s Caribbean colonies during the late 17th century. Brady (1861-1920), a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was an Episcopal minister and a successful author, with over 100 books to his credit, who also worked as a screenwriter for Vitagraph. Octavo: [446] p. with a frontispiece and 8 full-page plates by J.N Marchand and 4 full-page plates and 16 textual illustrations by Will Crawford. In the publisher's forest green flat-weave cloth binding, with a vignette of a buccaneer and titles stamped in cream and black on the front panel and gilt-stamped titles on the spine. The binding is signed "DD" (The Decorative Designers). Small purple ink star-shaped stamp on the copyright page. Very mild wear to the corners and tips; else near fine. In the exceedingly scarce dust jacket, which is toned along the extremities and a bit chipped with some archival silk reinforcement to the verso.
