Campbell (1777-1844), a Scottish poet, is remembered chiefly for his sentimental and martial lyrics, including the stirring patriotic war songs "Ye Mariners of England" and "The Soldier's Dream". With a printed advertising slip from the publisher laid in. 16mo: 210, 24 [ads] p. with a frontispiece portrait and 7 textual vignettes, all steel engravings by W. Greatbach, J. Goodyear, W. Miller, E.J. Portbury, E. Radclyffe, et al., after G. Barret, R.P. Bonnington, H. Howard, C. Leslie, Charles W. Radclyffe, T. Stothard, et al. The title page is printed in black and red. In the publisher's mauve patterned sand-grain cloth over beveled boards, with black-stamped borders, ornamental bands, and decorations, and a gilt-stamped portrait medallion, lyre device, and ornamental titling.
