first edition NA
1803
by Kay, John
1803. NA. Near Fine. Hand-colored copy of print, and with better coloring than other colored copies as well. This is also the first issue of the print, which is more commonly encountered in an 1837 version. 26.5 by 20 cm. Margins are not even, but that is probably how this copy was issued. Patrick Cotter (1760-1806) assumed the surname of O'Brien as a stage name in a circus sideshow. In actuality, he was only eight feet tall. From his circus earnings he was able to retire two years prior to his death. Possibly slightly trimmed on top. No loss, regardless, of the image. Light age toning around perimeter.
