Wraps. Cloth spine
1931 · Ware, Massachusetts, or possibly Brookfield, Massachusetts
Ware, Massachusetts, or possibly Brookfield, Massachusetts: Ware Coated Paper Co., which was a division of McLaurin-Jones Company, 1931. Wraps. Cloth spine. Good. Oblong, 10 by 20.5 cm. 71 paper samples, organized by the different tints, four groupings of gold, two, of platinum, and the gold papers accounting for 59 of the papers. Each grouping is arranged with each succeeding paper slightly taller, so that one can see a sliver of the paper onto which is printed the type of paper and often a number which distinguishes it from others of similar type. This is a catalogue about embossed design, the differences of more nuanced than say, with different prints on fabric, but the effect of the style of embossing is often striking. So the gold can have the effect of being hammered; it can look like tile, or linen, or it can be jazzed up with swirls, polka dots, cloud-like formations, etc. These are papers which have diverse uses. The company, on the inside cover, lists such things as covers, labels, box tops, booklets, etc. Information on the papers in each group is printed on the top paper of the grouping. Pricing info is given on the back inside cover. Cover has film of soiling, some of which can be removed with careful use of an eraser. There are stains, especially on back, that are permanent. The cloth spine is frayed and torn. Some loss of surface paper on front cover. Some papers within are creased or have rough edges. Still, all papers present, and interior-wise, still attractive and usable.
