Louisa Gurney Hoare (1784-1836) was an English diarist and writer, who mostly wrote about standards of education. She was one of eleven children in the Gurney family, who were a notable family of English Quakers. The Gurneys are known for their role in developing Norwich, England, as well as for the fact that several family members were abolitionists. Her parents encouraged all of their children to keep diaries, and Louisa wrote about nature, music, and religion. Louisa grew up to contribute to many of her siblings causes relating to abolition and prison reform. Her own focus was on education, on which she published two books. Her books were based on the ideas that children should be protected from evil but allowed to act childishly, and that parents should respect their children as well as set a good example for them.
