John Henry Pepper (1821-1900) was an English scientist and inventor, known for inventing a projection technique used by theatres, called (truncated) "Pepper's Ghost." This technique used a sheet of glass and particular lighting to project an actor on the stage, giving them a ghost-like appearance. Pepper served as a lecturer, and then director, of the Royal Polytechnic Institution in London.
