London: John Fairburn, 1825. First Edition. Robert Cruikshank. The print is skewering Edmund Kean (1867-1834), leading Shakespearean actor of the day, for the scandal he caused with his extra-marital affair with Charlotte Cox, here beaming by Kean's side in the chariot, as her cuckolded husband is driving the two roosters up front. In the same month as this print was issue Kean lost a criminal conversation case to Mr. Cox, and Kean's audience turned on him, jeopardizing his future career. 30 by 42 cm. Scarce -- only copy disclosed on OCLC First Search at the Folger. We can assume the British Library has a copy as well. Margins have light soiling and crease lines. The print proper remains vivid, the coloring, rich and fresh looking.
