The books of The Apocryphal New Testament are not generally accepted as part of the New Testament by most religious denominations. Its contents include writing from the first four centuries after Christ that document events from the life of Jesus and biographies of those who were supposedly witness to His life or recorded the activities of the Apostles and other followers of Christ. This edition is taken from the one made by William Wake and Jeremiah Jones in the 18th century and published by William Hone in London in 1820.

It was right in the path of the Second Great Awakening and in 1831, the First Methodists Church was built in the Ravenna, fsoon followed by the first Catholic Church. This The Apocryphal New Testament, apparently the only title printed by William Coolman, may have been a reaction to the establishment of Christian sects that refused to recognize these additional sources of the New Testament.
