A c.1900 booklet advertising patent medicine peddled by Orator Francis Woodward (1856-1906), best known as the man who popularized "Jell-O". The medicine in this booklet, "Kemp's Balsam", purports to ease respiratory illnesses such as consumption. What makes this item most interesting is its clear marketing strategy; it targets customers in the working class by showing images of men hard at work in the following professions: a farrier/blacksmith; a dry goods shopkeeper; a type compositor/printer; a woman typist at her typewriter; a woodworker; and an accountant.
