ROBERT MOSES (1888-1981). Moses was an urban planner most responsible for the current layout of New York City. He is best remembered as the subject of Robert Caros monumental The Power Broker.TLS. 1pg. 8 x 11. August 19, 1980. New York. A typed letter signed R Moses on his letterhead. He wrote to Ted Levine of New York, answering the question who influenced him the most in his lifetime. Moses wrote: Probably Governor Smith. I am enclosing some remarks of mine on this subject. New York Governor Al Smith was the first Catholic to run for President, losing to Herbert Hoover in 1928. Smith, as Governor, gave Moses his first taste of power, making him Secretary of State of New York. The letter is in fine condition. (Inventory #: 6538)
