FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1882-1945). Roosevelt was the Thirty-second President.TLS. 1pg. December 28, 1927. New York City. A typed letter signed Franklin D. Roosevelt as a business executive to Henry Ware Allen of Kansas, a prominent social reformer: The interesting thing to me about the growing strength of Governor Smith is the fact that it is springing up spontaneously is almost every part of the country and is not being fostered by any campaign committee or representatives here in New York. There seems no question in my mind that is we Democrats are to win next year, our best opportunity for doing so lies in the nomination of Governor Smith. Alas, Smith, the first Catholic nominee for President, lost to Herbert Hoover in 1928. The letter is matted in cream and framed in black. (Inventory #: 6511)
