William Walker (1824-1860) was an adventurer, filibuster, and revolutionary leader who managed to make himself president of Nicaragua (1856-57). This is Walker's first-hand description (told in the third person) of his own war in Nicaragua, published the same year as his death. Shortly after publishing this book, Walker returned to Central America, where he attempted to filibuster again, and was then executed by the Honduran government.
