Horvath (1891-1973) was a Hungarian-born, New York-based sketch artist, who was active in film from the early 1920s to early 1940s. Notably, he worked as a sketch artist for Walt Disney from 1933 to 1937, bringing a European style to the Disney films. He worked on many Disney shorts, including Salt Water Taffy (1930). He is perhaps best remembered for his uncredited work on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). Horvath's enthusiasm for Poe's masterpiece began when he was introduced to it as a schoolboy, but it was not until the artist's captivity in Russia during the First World War that the idea of an illustrated edition evolved into a series of rough outline sketches. Horvath is featured in John Canemaker's book, "Before the Animation Begins: The Art and Lives of Disney Inspirational Sketch Artists.
