Madera, Cal: Madera Times Print, 1899. Square-ish, ribbon-bound booklet (18 x 16 cm.), [32] pages. Advertisements. FIRST & ONLY EDITION. A small community cookbook with recipes attributed, and presented in narrative form. While the recipes are somewhat typical, there are a few more interesting ones, including Clove Cake and Chicken Tamales. The twelve pages of advertisements at rear are typographically engaging. Madera is a central California city, once a major lumber city, with timber arriving to via a log fume and leaving via railroad. This little cookbook was issue eight years before the town was incorporated, in 1907. Internally clean and sound. Black card-stock wrappers printed in gold, and with a typographical border; some light soil . Original pink ribbon still holding. Some soil and rubbing to wrappers, still very good. Unrecorded.
