by Wimmen's Comix, Feminism
[Feminism] [Comic] Wimmen's Comix was a groundbreaking feminist comic book series first published from 1972-1992. It was created to offer a platform for female comic artists at a time when the comic industry was dominated by men. Archive of the first run of 10 comics in the series, each feature a variety of vibrant staple bound covers, heavily illustrated in black and white by different feminist artists and writers. Includes issues 1-10, 1972-1985. Measures 7" x 10" each. Approximately 32 pages each. The first 10 issues were published by Last Gap, a Berkeley founded publishing house of underground comics, before being turned over to other publishers. Issue #8 was the comeback after taking a 6 year hiatus, having been the first of the series to be published in the 1980s. The series focused on women's issues, such as sex, menstruation, gender-roles, queerness, and politics, with a broader theme of women living under the patriarchy. Featuring works from notable feminist artists such as Lee Marrs, Sharon Rudahl, Trina Robbins, Diane Noomin, Barbara Smith, and Aline Kominsky-Crumb, Wimmen's Comix combined humor, satire, and personal narratives to challenge societal norms and give voice to underrepresented female experiences. Minor edge wear to some, covers and pages are clean and crisp. Overall very good condition. Wimmen's Comix played a key part in the underground comix movement and was an important cultural touchstone in the evolution of feminist art.
