Hothead Paisan was a 1990s alternative DIY satirical comic series created by lesbian artist and writer, Diane DiMassa. The main character, Hothead Paisan, is a violent homicidal lesbian who enacts vengeance on a series of chauvinistic and perverted men. The graphic, crudely drawn comic, plays with themes of violence and outrage against the conservative and traditional views on gender roles and sexuality. Other recurring characters include Thing #2, her defensive inner demon; Roz, her friend who offers Zen wisdom and tough love; and Chicken, her cat and constant companion. The zines were published quarterly beginning in 1991 and started at $14 per subscription. The first comic gained immediate recognition with the second and third issues including letters from queer fans praising DiMassa's humour and inclusivity. Overall very good condition. This title was popular amongst the 1990s alternative lesbian comix scene and offered a humorously shocking radical feminist backlash against the hypersexualization and traditionalization of women.
