Published out of Chelsea under the auspices of the Liverpool Spinners and the Spinners Club, the magazine's main focus was on British traditional folk music. Editor Beryl Davis was the wife of the Spinners singer Tony Davis. First published in October 1961 in a run of 300 copies, by 1965 it had grown to 5,00 readers, with many in America.
