by RAEUS, Magnus
[Worcester, MA]: Amerikan Suomalaisten Sosialististen Kustannus-Liikkeiden Liiton Kustantama, N.d. [ca 1920s]. First Edition. Small octavo (19cm). Pictorial card wrappers; 173pp. Light wear; mild toning to text edges; Very Good.
Highly uncommon first-person memoir of the Finnish Revolution of 1917-18, by a member of the Red Guard faction. By the time of this publication, Raeus (like many who had fought on the losing side against the Whites) was in the United States, where he had apparently made a reputation as an agitprop playwright (see Lahtinen, 50 Vuoden Varrelta. Superior, WI: Tyomies Soc., 1953, p.159ff). There was no edition in Finland, where left-wing publishers were officially suppressed during this period. OCLC notes seven locations in the U.S.; two more in Canada; not traced in commerce. (Inventory #: 83656)
