Very Good. 36; 72; 116pp. 19 cm tall and 22.5 cm tall. 1/4 brown cloth over peach-colored illustrated boards; 1/4 brown cloth over tan illustrated boards. 1/4 blue leather with printed blue and black paper over boards. Extremities moderately rubbed. Some darkening to the extremities of the paper on the boards of the third volume. Pages very clean and bright. Flake 2817. Flake 2818. Flake 608. A three-volume set. The two primers plus Selections from the Book of Mormon in the Deseret Alphabet.
The Deseret Alphabet was introduced in 1854 and was created by Parley P. Pratt, Heber C. Kimball and George D. Watt. Made up of thirty-eight characters to correlate with basic sounds in the English language. The creation of the language is one the more unusual ideas of Brigham Young, and never was embraced in the way he thought it would be. The Deseret Alphabet was quickly abandoned shortly after Young's death. (Inventory #: 67516)
