[PAINTING ALBUM]Yoshiike Cho 1. 20.5 x 15cm fabric covered orihon folding album with gilt edges and brushed fabric title slip housed in a 23.5 x 17cm wooden box with brushed title on cover and modern handwritten label on side of cover. A compilation of 17 double page sumi-e works (2 of which are double pages of calligraphy) by a group of artists that includes Nakamura Fusetsu (1866 - 1943), Awashima Kangetsu (1859 - 1926) and Takahashi Koko (1875-1912). 3 handwritten postcards 14 x 9cm and a handwritten letter in an envelope 18.5 x 16.3 all addressed to Katsuta Matsutaro and sent from artist Katsuta Shokin (1879-1963), who created the pink peony blossom in the album, are laid in. Also laid in is a single sheet 13 x 8cm with both of their names and Japanese handwritten text as well as a modern handwritten index to the works on a sheet 29.5 x 21cm. Cover of box with brushed text reads Yoshiike Cho 1, Seishoen seal and modern label on side of cover with Nakamura Fusetsu, Awashima Kangetsu Hoka Gacho [Album of Awashima Kangetsu, Nakamura Fusetsu and others] in Japanese text written in pen. Fading of gilt edges, otherwise fine condition. Damage to cover of boxon top forecorner. A nice example of the sort of group productions produced by even professional artists in their amateur literati mode. $950.00.
