Machias, Maine, 1873. Very good to near-fine. Minor toning, the odd spot.. Printed broadside promoting a theological lecture to be given by the Rev. C.C. Long of Machias, Maine, as a fundraising event for the small town's new church building. Speaking on the subject of "Man's Three Natures", the broadside states that "the outer and inner man will be most beautifully illustrated in life-like size and of attractive brilliancy. Man's immortality will be illustrated by diagrams from the original Greek, presenting this great truth in a manner that baffles questioning, and silences the skeptic and gainsayer."
Measures 13" by 6" The Rev. C.C. Long (dates unknown) resigned as District Missionary in Bangor, Maine in order to aid the town of Machias erect a new house of worship in 1871. He resigned from that post in 1884, leaving the church building unfinished. (Inventory #: 23000323)
