by Ketcham, Hank
New York: Henry Holt, 1952. Very good.. Inscribed early printing of this collection of Dennis the Menace cartoons, with a fantastic original drawing by Ketchum. This is the first hardcover appearance of the beloved blonde rascal, his family, and his much beleaguered neighbor Mr. Wilson. The idea for the comic-strip came to Ketcham when his wife, fed up with the antics of their son Dennis, loudly declared him to be a menace. This copy includes an original doodle of Ketcham's comic-counterpart, with a charming inscription aptly referring to himself as "Dennis' dad." 9'' x 6''. Original color pictorial boards. Illustrated throughout in black and white. Unpaginated. Inscribed by Ketcham with original drawing to front fly leaf: "TO KATHERINE AND LE — Hank Ketchum, DENNIS' DAD"; drawing caption: "cool haircut for summer." Previous owner sticker to front pastedown. Boards with rubbing and some shelfwear, light toning.
