The beautiful set known as The Chartwell Edition (with pastedown of Churchill's rendering on front cover of all Volumes) What makes this an especially important set is William L. Shirer's 17 page foreword. Illustrated with maps and charts. v. 1. The Gathering Storm -- v. 2. Their Finest Hour -- v. 3. The Grand Alliance -- v. 4. The Hinge of Fate -- v. 5. Closing the Ring -- v. 6. Triumph and Tragedy. As many experts have noted, Churchill was not only a first hand observer of World War II (as he had been in World War I) but had a literary ability not common among historians. A fine set bound in ΒΌ blue cloth over pale yellow cloth, color pictorial pastedowns to upper boards, spine lettering silver over red and blue cloth, top edges red. A near fine set with a couple of lightly bumped corners.
