Staplebound
1914
by Swift & Company
Swift & Company, 1914. Staplebound. Blue illustrated wraps. Near fine. Unpaginated [13 pp.] 15.5 x 10.5 cm. A rare pamphlet featuring the graphic design known as Plakatstil ("poster style" in German) or Sachplaket ("object-poster" in German). This style originated in Germany in the early 1900's and soon spread to the US. The common characteristics of this style are bold eye-catching lettering with flat colors. Shapes and objects are simplified, and the composition focuses on a central object. The cover of this pamphlet incorporates this style with the female character placed dead center and the dark background using a similar color for her dress. Swift (truncated)
