[Silver Spring, MD]: Type Punch Matrix, 2021. Fine, as new.. Limited edition of this rare book catalogue describing and illustrating 100 lots that trace the history of the genre, signed by Type Punch Matrix co-founder Rebecca Romney. From the sentimental and courtship novel traditions of the 18th century, through the first dedicated line of Latino romances, and including such high spots as a first edition PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, Beverly Jenkins's own copy of INDIGO, and an inscribed association copy of Barbara Cartland's first book, the 100 lots described in this catalogue demonstrate the breadth and depth of the field of popular romance history in English. The rare books and manuscripts material featured here were collected by the author in order to provide an institution with a foundational collection upon which to build further, representing material examples of the genre that are of immediate and flexible use to researchers, scholars, teachers, and students. The catalogue itself provides a model for other institutions to assemble their own versions of such a collection if they desire to invest in the idea of providing the material means for romance scholars to study the history of the genre (as well as an argument about why they should seriously consider it). It also suggests various strategies for the private collector. Limited to 500 copies, signed by the author. 9.5'' x 6.5''. Original quarter grey cloth, red cloth boards, lettered in white. Grey endpapers. Illustrated with full-page color images throughout. 280 pages. Signed by Romney on the limitation page.
