Martin Luther King, Jr. SNCC. Set of four vintage, civil rights button pins from the 1960s. Two pins with portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr. and two pins from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Various sizes: 3.5” dia., 1.75” dia., and 1” dia. The pins quote King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech from 1963 and would have been created shortly after. These small pins made a big statement for wearers, and in some parts of the US, wearing one of these badges could mark you as a target.
The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) was founded in 1960 in collaboration with Dr. King and were essential in organizing the March on Washington; the smaller design was made between 1962-1965, so this very pin could have possibly been worn to the historic March on Washington. All four pins in excellent condition. (Inventory #: 16377)
