ALAN DUNN CARTOON LAMPOONING RALPH NADER AUTO SAFETY

Copy, likely a pull sheet or dummy from The New Yorker. of an Alan Dunn cartoon lampooning car safety features advocated by consumer activist Ralph Nader, sometime 1965, when his groundbreaking book "Unsafe at Any Speed" was published. Copy itself measures 10" x 11.25' matted to approx 18" x 18" with the clear acetate over just the matt printed with cartoon caption. Drawing is of a suburban woman in sporty convertible having driven through a farm fence on a country rode getting ticketed by a policeman. The caption, addressed by the driver to the officer, reads: "Unfortunately I was waiting until 'Unsafe (truncated) at Any Speed' came out in paperback". Provenance: From the library of publisher Richard Grossman, who published Nader's book after it had been rejected by every "established" US publishing house. The book launched the success of Grossman Publishers and Grossman and Nader remained friends until Grossman's death in 2014. (Inventory #: 011811)
