Uncovering book collecting with Jett Whitehead!

Great Lakes Bay Area native and former Saginaw Art Museum Trustee, Jett Whitehead has been dealing in rare books and building collections of modern poetry for university and private collectors since 1991, from his base in Bay City. Jett will lead us in a casual interactive discussion about how the Saginaw Art Museum & Gardens’ art book collection was formed and give an insider’s blueprint on how to start and build your own book collection. He will explain what makes a book rare and share tips on how and where to find the answers to your rare book questions.

An active member of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America (ABAA), where he served for several years on the Board of Governors, Jett has an extensive background in buying, selling, appraising, and building collections of modern poetry nationwide.

Registration isn’t required but is appreciated.

Rare Books San Francisco returns on February 1-2, 2025 and brings with it a Regency era flare in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of revered English novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817).

With support from AbeBooks and KQED, this celebration of antiquarian books, rare maps, fine printing, ephemera, and artist’s books will take in the Gateway Pavilion at Fort Mason and for the first time, will include a selection of independent writers, artists, and creators curated by San Francisco Zine Fest.

In addition to guided tours of the book fair and a zine making workshop, leading writers and “Janeites” will speak to the life, work, and lasting influence of Jane Austen (1775-1817), author of such classic novels as Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1816).

We are sharing the difficult news that the 2025 ABAA California Book Fair has officially been canceled. As of today, January 13, FEMA and the Red Cross have assumed responsibility for the operations of the Pasadena Convention Center for 30 days as an evacuation center for those displaced by the fires.

All tickets purchased through Eventbrite will be refunded to the original payment method.

We thank you for your understanding, and our hearts go out to all those affected by the disaster in Southern California.
