Frontispiece illustration of Thomas. Five plates including two foldouts. This is the first published history of printing in the United States. The author was a noted printer, newspaper publisher, and a founder of the American Antiquarian Society. Rubbing to the bindings. Gutters of both volumes tender. Small waterstain to lower corner of frontispiece effecting the portrait in the bottom left corner of vol 1. Newspaper clipping glued onto page 37 of vol 2. Toning to the textblock throughout in both volumes. Beautiful exlibris bookplate of the Kennebec Natural History & Antiquarian Society in both volumes on the front pastedown.
