182 Postcards Depicting Musical Instruments, Performances & Music Halls

The 182 postcards in this collection contain one silver gelatin print by the Vilhelm Trydes publisher, Copenhagen, a postcard of Henry A. Lytton in the role of "Sir Ruthven Murgatroyed" in Ruddigore, signed by the actor, a postcard depicting a scene of Wagner's Parsifal designed by Henry W. Savage, a postcard featuring the musical contortionist Henri Manuel, some chromolithographs, and 7 beautiful color postcards with elaborate embossed motifs. Henry A. Lytton is said to be the only person ever knighted for achievements as a Gilbert (truncated) and Sullivan performer. The collection of mostly color cards contains 13 cards with Music Halls, 18 with dance motifs, and 159 depicting music instruments and musician. They are printed by various European and American publishers. Most of the postcards are unused, some postmarked with handwritten text. Some of the cards have a smaller format and few are stenciled and cut motifs. Some cards are advertisments of businesses or simply small format prints. Text in English, French, German. Almost all postcards are housed in separate plastic sleeves and deposited in pockets of plastic sheets. Some age-toning of cards but overall, the cards are in very good condition. (Inventory #: 39454)
