INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper in the year of publication: "For Dorothy and Clarence / Still the best in-laws in the world / Ken / See p. vii of 'Foreword.'" The cited page reveals that Millar would write daily at his sister-in-law's apartment, and there produced the novel, "The Moving Target." Dorothy and Clarence Schlagel were Millar's in-laws, the sister and brother-law of his wife, Margaret Millar.
