1939. · [Cincinnati]:
by [World Series Program].
Program, 4to, pictorial covers, illustrated. Slight aging, minor wear to spine; covers bright, clean, and firm, an excellent copy overall. The 1939 series would be the Reds first trip to the championship since the "Black Sox Scandal" in 1919. Unfortunately for the Reds, thanks to some great work by Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey and Charlie Keller, it would be a short trip, and the Yanks would win in four. Bill McKechnie was the Reds manager, and Joe McCarthy did the honors for the Yanks. Key players included Frank Corsetti, Lefty Gomez, Tommy Henrich, and Babe Dahlgren, who replaced the aging Lou Gehrig at first base. A great piece of baseball memorabilia, with plenty of pictures and ads. baseball-almanac website.
