ALS,; 8vo, 2pp to Mrs. Hannah Crossman of Martinsburgh, W Va., Washington, DC, October 30, 1874
signed
by RITTENHOUSE, C. R. (Claim and Collection Agent)
Rittenhouse writes to help Mrs. Crossman complete a form so that her claim might be processed. He writes: "Dear Madam, Your last letter of the 27th rec'd ... and as requested I return your claim as sent to me with a new one made up as far as I can now make it - not knowing the names of your proof. That is the two persons necessary to sign ... If these can be any of civil or military officers ... it would be best & citizens evidence is not considered necessary ..." Etc. The letter does give one a good idea of the hoops that had to be jumped through to make (truncated)
