New York: Cupples and Leon, 1922. Hardcover. Fine. Trifle soiled on the front cloth pictorial board else fine lacking the dustwrapper. Eighth book in the "Baseball Joe" series, the first major series devoted to a central character who was first, last and foremost, a baseball player, as well as the first series that treated major league players as something other than disreputable denizens of the lower class. This book reflects an interesting change in baseball, brought about by the emergence of Babe Ruth (thinly disguised here as Kid Roth). In previous books in the series Baseball Joe was a weak hitting pitching star, here he emerges as a slugger. (Inventory #: 23182)
