A defense of the English position and the recently concluded Webster-Ashburton Treaty. The treaty and the accompanying notes made great headway in settling some vexing issues between the UK and America. The border between Maine and New Brunswick was defined with some territorial concessions. In addition (truncated) boundaries were rectified at the head of the Conn. River, the north end of Lake Champlain, the Detroit River, and at the head of Lake Superior. Free navigation of the St John River was agreed to as were two important notes regarding the right of free passage to American slave vessels and the protection of American shipping. TPL #2582.
