ATTEMPTING TO HAVE A SUIT REINSTATED, in an autograph document, signed in Harrison County, Texas, undated [mid-1861]

Folio. 2 pages, approximately 350 words. Folded, but very good. At the February, 1861, spring term of court, a suit against a New York City company had been dismissed because the plaintiff's attorney "was in attendance upon the State Convention held in the city of Austin" [i.e., the secession convention]. In this document, "in consequence of the existence of war between New York as one of the United States and the State of Texas as one of the Confederate States that said money became confiscate," Patillo is attempting to have the suit reinstated so that the (truncated) plaintiff might make her "just claim" against the C.S.A. as holder of the money. Such Confederate legal documents are scarce in trade. (Inventory #: 41302)
