A collection of sixteen early 19th century French traveling books, the publisher, J.B. Fournier Père et Fils, produced a number of uniformly bound titles in miniature format under the heading of Bibliothèque Portative du Voyageur, and the customer would make their selections which would then be housed in purpose built boxes, portable books have a long and distinguished history, traveling libraries date back to at least the early 17th century, and miniature bibles were carried by medieval itinerant preachers. 12mo.
