50-50: A Garland for Edna

The names of those who were to receive this book are printed on a terminal page, with the recipient for this particular book printed in red. This was Ruth Arens' copy. Other recipients included Ellen and Wilder Bentley, Albert Bender, Dorothea and Maynard Dixon, Beulah and Robert Grabhorn, et al. Full cream-colored parchment paper, decoratively stamped in gilt, blind, and colors. . 6 3/4 x 5 3/8. Tipped in frontisportrait. Spine browned. A very good copy in publisher's slipcase. Presentation copy, inscribed (truncated) by Edna Foote Garnett: "Dear Ruth. The story of the spoof should be dedicated to you who made it possible. I dedicate a real affection. Eddie." Also inscribed by Porter Garnett below: "You were more wonderful when you didn't spill the beans than when you did. Porter. Pittsburgh. March 8, 1931." "Twentieth century bookplate of librarian and bibliographer D. Steven Corey Porter Garnett (1871-1951) was an influential San Francisco writer and critic who later became a distinguished fine printer.
