Mitsou: Quarante Images par Baltusz

First edition of the first book illustrated by BALTHUS (aged 11) and of the first book written in French by RILKE, large in-8 in sheets. In 1919, RILKE met Baladine KLOSSOWSKA and her two sons, Pierre and Balthus, in Geneva. He was so struck by the drawings made by the latter that he decided to have them published with an accompanying text. This mythical book has become very difficult to find. This copy comes from the printer's reserves and comes in sheets, unfortunately with the lack of the 6th of the 40 illustrations by BALTHUS. (Inventory #: 50451)
