Palmyra, NY: Press of the Palmyra Courier-Journal, 1930. First Edition. 310+20pp. Quarto [27 cm] Black pebbled leather with the title gilt stamped on the front board. Very good. Minor rubbing to corners with the crown of the backstrip bumped and chipped. Signed by the author on a limitation bookplate that is attached to the front pastedown, this is copy #2. History of the Palmyra, New York, area by a long-time resident. Much on the Mormons and the founding of the religion by an area observer.

"Adjoining this farm on the south is the Joseph Smith farm, where Mormonism first originated. In the Autumn of 1816, Joseph Smith, sr., came from Royalton, (truncated) Vermont, to Palmyra. In this family were nine children, six boys and three girls. Soon after arriving in Palmyra he opened a 'cake and beer shop.' The Smiths took their departure in 1831. More will be said about the Smiths as we advance in our journey and some of the important places connected with the Mormons will be pointed out as we advance." p 219. Flake/Draper 2493.
