The Monthly Letter of the Limited Editions Club December 1937, Number 103 (4pp.) is folded and laid-in. Quarto (27cm); half brown morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, with titling stamped in gilt on spine; marbled edges of textblock; slipcase; [xxii],294,[6]pp; illustrated with sixteen lithographs. Spine-faded, with light rubbing to board edges; Very Good. Publisher's slipcase has titling (truncated) and decoration stamped in blue on spine, with modest rubbing to spine and board edges, tiny cracker to upper edge panel, and lacking lower edge panel; Good.

Illustrations throughout include racial stereotypes, with Covarrubias enjoying plays inspired by Stowe's novel (Eliza Crossing the Ice; Simon Legree) before reading her work. The laid-in letter provides additional public response to artwork by Covarrubias during the time: "His gift for caricature has caused him to catch the essential qualities of the negroid face, the sloped dome of the head and the broad nose and the thick lip, so that Negroes and non-Negroes (if we may refer to the yellow and ivory races in this negative manner) all feel delight in, and admiration for, the Covarrubias negro drawings".
