ABOUT THIS SET:
Volume 1 contains three of the most important hard science fiction novels--Needle, Iceworld, and Close to Critical.

Volume 2 contains seventeen of Hal Clement's stories. They range from near-future (truncated) earth to the distant Magellanic Cloud. Their protagonists are tachyonic aliens and teen-aged humans, retired explorers and beings so vast and slow that they don't even notice mankind, criminals, pirates and teachers.

Volume 3 contains all of Hal Clement's Mesklin stories including "Under" especially commissioned for this book. The heroes are caterpillar-like alien sailors who live on the very high gravity planet Mesklin. The only real antagonist is the universe itself.
