Ft. Worth: Southwest Mapping Co, 1945. Very good.. Blueline map, on linen, 41 x 41 inches. Old folds, some discoloration from dust soiling, minor edge wear. A large, highly-detailed, information-rich, and apparently-unrecorded blueline map of Callahan County, Texas, located in far west Texas just outside of Abilene. The map was produced by the Southwest Mapping Company of Fort Worth. Owners for every parcel of land on the map are printed, mostly individual owners but including blocks of land controlled by railroad companies, mostly the Southern Pacific Railway, as well as school lands, the "Lunatic Asylum," the "Deaf and Dumb Asylum," the Bayland Orphan (truncated) Home, and more. The map also includes a wealth of information on contemporary ownership of land in Callahan County by oil & gas companies. A sampling of the companies represented here include Texaco, Weldon Oil, Dixie Drilling Company, Star Drilling, Humble Oil, and Alliance Oil.
