1800 · Ethiopia
Ethiopia, 1800. A long healing scroll, constructed of parchment, a full two meters long, 11 cm wide, constructed with three pieces of parchment sewn together. With three spans of imagery -- the top most dominated by a human figure. N.d., but almost certainly 19th century. Healing scrolls were made to protect the carriers from various evil spirits. The parchment shows typical signs of age -- browning, orange spotting, some what we would regard as minor cracking.
