First (Canadian) Edition -- printed in Canada, but probably issued simultaneously with Stokes's NY edition -- of this book in Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables" series (which began with that book in 1908, sited on the author's native Prince Edward Island). By now, Anne and Gilbert Blythe are married and have five children (with another on the way!); this novel actually dwells more on the children than on their parents. This is the eighth and last book in the series to be (truncated) published (the author died in 1942), but it is sixth in the chronology of the outspoken redhead Anne Shirley. The author tried to replicate Anne's fame with other heroines (JANE OF LANTERN HILL, PAT OF SILVER BUSH, EMILY OF NEW MOON), but without success. This copy is from the first printing, with gilt lettering and with light blue endpapers; it is in near-fine condition (minor rubbing at the extremities, and of the gilt spine lettering). It is boldly signed by the author on the (original) textured light blue front free endpaper, "L. M. Montgomery". The book came to us from Pictou County, Nova Scotia. (Inventory #: 15681)
