San Francisco, 1900. Very good.. Four issues, each [4]pp. 12mo. Printed in two columns. Minor toning and wear. A small but compelling collection of this charming amateur newspaper, chiefly covering other amateur newspapers in a very modern meta twist. The only exception may be the serialized story "Tom Hancock, or A Western Boy's Success" by Al. A. Meda," which leads off the two issues from volume one. The remainder of the content, however, relates to the national community of amateur newspapers, which evidently operated on a system of reciprocity: "We regret the fact that we shall be compelled to discontinue sending the Monarch to several amateur journals who, having received it month after month, have not taken the trouble of sending us at least one copy for review." Present here are Vol. 1, nos. 5 & 6; Vol. 2, no. 4; and Vol. 3, no. 3. Scarce. (Inventory #: 5792)
