Wraps. Stapled
Boston
Boston: Thomas G. Plant Co. Printed by Sackett & Wilhelm Litho. and Printing Co., New York. Wraps. Stapled. Very Good Minus. Attractive and unusual small catalogue for women's shoes, with two chromolithographic plates, one of Elizabeth I of England, the other, of Marie Antoinette, and on the backside of these plates are short puffy biographies. Also on the front cover is an oval embossed cameo, with a green background that evokes Wedgwood's jasperware. All of these elements not directly about the product are of course to deepen the queenly image the brand has latched onto in its branding. N.d., 12mo. 16 by 10 cm. 32 paginated pages, with two chromo plates, with text on their back sides, not counted in pagination. 21 pages feature illustrations of the shoes on offer, generally one per page, occasionally two. The shoe styles are generally conservative, or "sensible" shoes, which would have appealed to the stereotypical spinster or a woman of a certain age, or a school teacher or prim female office worker. Light dampstaining, with a few leaves having a rather large, but light, dampstain. The center folded sheet, or four pages, loose from the staples.
