Two large 8vo volumes; in the publisher’s blue cloth with the Confederate capital stamped in gilt to the upper board of each volume, and with each volume titled in gilt to the spine; [3], 4-403 pages, including the Index; [3], 4-490 pages, including the Index; each volume has a mylar wrapper, and the two volumes together are housed in the publisher’s slipcase; the pictorial ~slipcase has modest wear and a c;ear tape repair at the top edge.~~We know from the Nevin’s bibliography that this is “the most consulted journal for wartime Richmond and the Confederate government”. The notes for the edition are considered “inaccurate”, but it also considered the “more qualitative edition”.~~Harwell observes that Jones set out to be “the Confederate Pepys”.~~Overall, an attractive copy.of this important Confederate diary.
