Kate Sanborn (1839-1917) was an American writer and teacher. Born (truncated) in New Hampshire, Sanborn was educated at home by her father who was a Latin professor. She was able to support herself through her writing by age 17. She taught English literature at Smith College, and later lectured in New York City at the Young Women's Christian Association and elsewhere. Her 1885 anthology, The Wit of Women, argued for women's sense of humor. (Inventory #: 17842)
